Hot cocoa – a wintertime staple. The little ones love it, and for the rest of us – we’re all kids at heart. I don’t like the prepackaged mixes because I find them too sweet. I’ve made this a little healthier, but if you’re feeling fancy, you can add a splash of half and half, top it with some whipped cream, or add an ounce (or two) of your favourite liqueur. Rum would be my choice for this one… yummmm. I like to add a bit of coffee into any chocolate recipe – it helps bring out the chocolate flavour. The coffee can be omitted if you’re making this for the young ones.
The holidays are also coming up! Mix all the dry ingredients together into a little mason jar and you get the perfect stocking stuffer.
The yummy goodness that went into the jar:
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 6 tbsp raw sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tbsp instant espresso powder
Give it a good shake and you’re done!
The recipe is in detail below, but it’s pretty simple. Dissolve equal amounts of mix to hot water. For every cup of milk, use 2 tbsp of the mix. Add in a splash of vanilla at the end, and put whatever topping you want! What is your favourite winter drink?
